So I am getting ready to start setting up my 10ER and have to ask some questions.
1. What size saw blade do I need for the table saw?
2. Will attachments for later models work on my 10ER?
3. I also need to find a blade insert for the table any ideas where to find one?
4. Any recommendations for a woodworking basics book or DVD?

The 10ER uses an 8 in. blade. You can do an awful lot of cutting with slightly smaller blades. The ER has a 5/8" quill so most anything that fits on the Mark V quill will work on the ER with a few exceptions. And even some of those (like the biscuit joiner) can be 'adapted' to the ER. You can also mount SPT's with an adapter kit (SS produced one and there are aftermarket ones, or you can build your own). The owners manual is a good reference and copies can be found over on the Yahoo 10erusers group. Also, the first Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone book published was centered around the 10E/ER.

I have a table insert if you are still looking for one.

1. The 10ER Owners Guide http://www.songofthegreatlakes.com/ss10ermanual.htm shows an 8" blade.

2. Yes, but you will need a Power Mount adapter (or a SPT adapter}
If your 10ER did not come with one you can watch for one on Ebay, or get one from

Also check out the photos section on the Yahoo Shopsmith 10ER users group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Shopsmith10ERusers/ some 10ER owners have made their own from wood.

3. They some times come up on Ebay.

You could modify a Shopsmith Mk V 500 insert.http://www.mkctools.com/10ermvdruminsert.htm
Or you could make one from plywood or from laminate flooring.

4. The first edition of "Power Tool Woodworking For Everyone" by R.J. De Cristoforo, which was written for the 10ER would be good.

I have a .pdf file copy but I can't find where I downloaded it from.

Wow thanks for the info. That all helps tremendously. I have 2 copies of that book that was in a box of stuff that came with my 10ER, both for later models. The last link gave me pulley use info so I have an idea of speeds. I really like those aluminum inserts. Again thanks for the help. Gonna get some safety gear first, then some wood, and then go to town.

Sir I just aquired an ER this weekend, is your 2nd book something you'd part with?

Niether are for the ER, they are both for later models (so the speeds are in letters not pulley positions). They were my wifes dads so I will have to check with her (that whole sentimental thing you know).
