Good looking 520 plus a bandsaw for $600. If I didn't already have one...

Just the table system is worth that much money from SS. Wow! If I lived in the area, it would be in my garage now. :D

Interesting bandsaw fence! Wonder if all the 'other' stuff is included?

Yes the bandsaw fence is interesting. I don't own a fence for my bandsaw and have been thinking about building one. I've seen a lot of designs and this may be one of the most elegant ones I've seen.

Well, my Shopsmithoholicism got the best of me. I emailed the seller yesterday and he called me this morning. Just got home. Took a long time to get down there, so I simply broke the 520 down & loaded up the 2-3 boxes of extra stuff into the car with an almost brand new bandsaw.

I think I have 11 Mark Vs. Well one is technically a Mark 7 with the DVR motor upgrade. I'm gonna put a DVR in this one too.

This is like a Shopsmith Rescue Center. Poor Old SS's need a safe and warm home, and they find them fast around here. We're all suckers for a good bit of old Greyhound. Once my rotator cuff surgery is healed I'll be back in the garage trying to make stuff with mine.

It's amazing how this 520 lasted so long- posted on April 5th. 11/03/1999 was the day it was born. I looked at a 510 yesterday & on the way over, I pulled over and emailed the owner of this 520- figuring it was long gone, but nothing ventured; nothing gained.

The 510 owner (son of the original owner) used the 510 maybe 2-3 times in 10 years. He was firm on an $800 price, but it had rust and I'm not sure if all the pieces were there for the table saw function. He had it up in the vertical mode for some reason. I pulled off the motor cover and it was loaded with saw dust showed no evidence of the sheaves ever being lubed. The speed dial was set to high, so I spun the hubs as I lowered lowered the speed dial-it wasn't stripped.

The seller mentioned he might have the Shopsmith shop vac- I asked a DC3300? He wasn't sure & sure enough he did. I told him to clean it up & include it with everything else. But only someone who doesn't know Shopsmiths might buy it unless they are scared that there is no flesh detection technology feature... The 510 I bought in February came with a mounted planer, a jointer, a biscuit joiner, and an Incra fence system. I got that one for a great price too. The seller needed space & also wanted a SawStop table saw. He had some very nice tools like Lie Neilsen hand planes- ka-ching!

Yesterday, I offered the guy $150 for the bandsaw and he said he'd think about it. I hate seeing Shopsmiths being sold in pieces- sometimes the winning price on Ebay is higher than the price Shopsmith is selling the same item for. People must not know of the Shopsmith site.

I'll take pics of the bandsaw fence if anyone is interested.

Yes please. I am very interested in some detail photos of the band saw fence and also a hands on assessment of whether this homemade design works well.

Thanks,

Al

PS Congrats on getting this one. I've been watching it and was surprised it didn't sell sooner. I just don't have the funds right now or I would have gone and got it myself.
