Two Pleasant Surprises at Lowes Today

I need a back for a cabinet. Went to the nearest outlet to shop for what I want; a half sheet of hardboard (48x48). Did not find that but I found 1/8" and 3/16" tempered hardboard (masonite). I have not been able to find that locally for a long time. Now maybe it was here all along because I found it in a department where I would not have looked along with screen doors, outdoor panels, etc.
But the real pleasure was the helpful, cheerful attitude and availability of people. It was great.

Used to be able to find it at Grant Road Lumber. Not any more?
Hood Dist. carries it for sure. But, only in 1/8 and 1/4. I hate to go there...too much good looking lumber!!!

Lowe's has had this product for several years. I have been using it to replace backs and drawer bottoms in some furniture in which the original got wet. Also, they have 6/32's backing board with a finish side and rough side.
My personal preference for Lowe's is that they carry things that I need/want and they always have a person to check you out. The other big box store is a self service checkout and I can't hear the instructions. Some grocery stores are becoming that way and I intend not to support such stuff. Yes, it saves them money, but they don't knock down the price of food.
Good on you, Dusty. Hope you get to enjoy the new type of masonite.

I hope it is close to what Dusty's recollection of it is!

What I remember from many years ago masonite had a textured side looking a little like tiny squares. And, it was thicker than what is now available. What I find here is very smooth on one side and the other side is slightly textured without the design and a bit thinner. (As is most other lumber and related products.)

Yes, you are correct and this is not exactly that same product but it is hard; harder than other brands in other outlets.
