I'm trying to do Bill Mayo's pork chop repair trick (Bill generously sent me the bolt, nut and star washers a couple months back). But I cannot for the life of me get the roll pin out. I even bought a properly sized pin punch. The assembly is kind of a cumbersome shape and I can't figure out how to properly brace it or clamp it so that I can apply some harder hammer blows. Anybody been down this road before and have any suggestions?

You might try applying heat, penetrating oil and wait awhile. You won't have to hit as hard, makes it easier to get the pin out without heroic efforts.

Thanks for the advice. I will try the penetrating oil. I think I will wait on the heat. I suspect the metal that makes up the quadrant has a lower resistance to heat than the steel roll pin does.

I cut the head off a nail close to the roll pin diameter, backed up the other side with a socket, and squeezed it out in my vise.
