carriage problem

where would I start to look for this problem to be corrected.

there are time when my carriage with or without my table on it locks up.

the first thought is it needs wax. that isn't it.

I can be using this carriage and I relase the lock and it won't budge. It can be so stuck, I can pull/push it so hard the SS will move (wheels up).

If I jiggle the lock on the cariage and kinda push in the lock lever along with rubber mallet, it will break loose.

once broken loose, it slides like a dream and will do for a little while but then locks again.

any ideas?
TIA

That sounds like the wedges are getting worn and no longer flat. Replacements are about $9 each from Shopsmith (at least they were before the price increases), but Bill Mayo talks about filing them flat again on one of his posts.

M5, 500, or 505-520?

May just need a bit of cleaning and lubrication.

The quick clamp/release newer mechanism is less tolerant of wear.
