new/old toy

Picked up a sawsmith 7000 (radial arm saw) for $50 today.
came with about 12 blades, other attachments.
owner says it needs a new belt.
It works and goes round, but maybe there is slippage when under load.
I don't even know where the belt goes yet.
everything moves ok, I have downloadedthe manual and checked out the ssusers on yahoo.
I think I scored ok.

Looks like you did well! Did you get any information as to when it was made? The
one I have from 1959-60 has the 'Goldie' color scheme. If I remember correctly, the belt is in the housing around the right arbor. Which reminds me.....I need to lube the sheaves before using mine again.......

Sounds like a similar story of the late John Folkerth. I might have it slightly off but apparently he had a Sawsmith and needed parts but quickly learned otherwise and ended up buying the remains of the old Shopsmith company. So are you planning to buy Shopsmith and make parts for these machines? Just kiddin and looks like you scored a super buy.

Have no idea how they (Yuba) did serial numbers then.....mine is 706095, and I'm sure it was new from Monkey Wards in the '59-60 time-frame.

Close. He bought a SawSmith without a blade at a yard/garage sale thinking obtaining a blade would be a simple matter. Wrong! So he then thought there would be a market for blades to fit, so he approached Magna American intending to get rights to manufacture blades. They offered him the whole kit and kaboodle.
