I have a box built onto a 2 wheel convertible hand truck. I bought the hand truck at Sears many years ago. It has served me well even though it is not metal (some sort of plastic or reinforced nylon).

When I went to the shop this morning, I found the "wood cart" listing badly to one side. One of the wheels just collapsed. I off loaded the cart to see what needs to be done to fix it. Two 8" wheels with 1/2 bore and two 3" casters with 7/16" stems will put it back in service.

The cost of a replacement two wheel convertible hand truck is unbelievable. I could not find anything comparable for less than about $100.

It might be time to build one.

Can you not replace the wheels with a different kind? Harbor Freight has all sorts of reasonably priced ones.

I just put two 10" pneumatic ones on a gas grill (replaced the plastic 6" wheels). They were $3.99 each!

Farm stores are another great place to check for wheels and tires. Jim

If you're looking at replacing the hand truck, you should check out Lowe's. I found a really good one there a year ago. Made in USA too!

Thanks for the feedback. I found wheels at Ace that fit the old hand truck. Cost me about $20 and I am back in business.

If you can't tell, I am about as frugal as they come.
