I'm posting this here as well as on the Maintenance and Repair Forum. I'm dismantling a 1964 Mk VII which I bought with virtually no use and has been well kept and has little or no rust on any parts. The reason is because I have just inherited a 510 and will use it since it is 30 years younger.


I have researched comparative prices on the Mark VII on the internet (ebay for example) as well as Shopsmith for some things that are the same and will offer a 20-40% discount here.

A few items are new but that does not affect my pricing. I'm comparing new with new. It will be better than what you can find used on ebay or other sources.

All parts will have been dismantled and cleaned and inspected and will be shipped dismantled to reduce shipping charges to you. The bigger the box the more it costs.

The only part that will not be sold is the base (which holds the castors) because this was damaged when movers dropped the machine and bent the base. If anyone wants this I will send pictures and ship it at only the cost of shipping to you. Otherwise it goes to a local person who is collecting scrap metal to support his family.

Attached is a listing of eBay sold prices for parts I have for sale. I will post prices for all items later this week along with pictures. The pictures will probably be separate postings to make it easier to find what you are interested in.

Some history on this Shopsmith Serial # 405073

The woman I bought it from was the widow of a man who worked for Rockwell and lived in Long Beach, CA. I had worked with him for a few months, visited in his home and we talked Shopsmith and when he died she asked if I wanted to buy his Shopsmith.

He purchased the Shopsmith new in 1964 (I think) and as an engineer performed regular maintenance. I have continued to do so every year. This Mk VII has been well maintained and has minimal rust on any parts. Some things are new which he bought just prior to becoming ill and never recovering. Those will be identified as new and never used. While I can’t personally guarantee that they are new his widow told me that he hadn’t been able t use them due to his illness. Some things are used but appear to be new because they show minimal use.

I just replaced the bearings on the drive shaft and it has zero minutes of runtime. The quill bearings were replaced about 3 years ago and have probably less than 50 hrs. runtime.

I am parting this out because I inherited a 510, which was in good condition, and because when I performed the annual PM on this machine the motor just hums and won’t start. Probably a capacitor but I don’t want to mess with it so I’m parting it out.

Anything that is new and unused will be identified. If it appears new but may have been used it will be labeled used.

I’m posting this now so you can see what is available. Pictures of each item will follow later in the week. Prices are based on about 75-85% of selling price on eBay but in some cases no comparable part was available for comparison.

Weight of the items is actual unboxed weight, which will help calculate shipping cost to your zip code. Shipped weight will be slightly more. Most items will be shipped USPS at best rate. UPS or FedEx will be used for heavier items, which USPS doesn’t accept.

Parts list is Color Coded:
· Black – Fits ALL Mark V (including 500/510/520) and Mark VII
· Green – Fits Mark V 510/520 ONLY
· Blue – Fits Mark V excluding 500/510/520
· Red – Fits Mark VII ONLY

Separate listings and pictures will be posted for each item.

Everything will be shipped disassembled to save you on shipping charges (they go by weight and size. All parts, including hardware; e.g., clips, springs, screws are included and everything is easy to reassemble. If you have any difficulties in reassembling anything you can contact me and I will send you a schematic, or other graphic or provide detailed instructions.

Whatever is not sold within 30 days will appear on eBay (I’ll have figured out how to sell there by then). The BUY IT NOW price will be 15% higher than posted here.

Why is a saw guard relevant to a drill chuck?

A saw guard is relevant because if you use one you have to use the longer drill chuck.

OK! Why would you leave the saw guard on when mounting a drill chuck?
