I'm dismantling a 1963 Mk VII which I bought with virtually no use and has been well kept and has little or no rust on any parts. The reason is because I have just inherited a 510 and will use it since it is 30 years younger.

I will be posting pictures of the parts I will sell. I will dismantle and inspect each and will include assembly instructions for any that you choose to buy along with pictures if you need them.

I am in the process of researching comparative prices on the Mark VII on the internet (ebay for example) as well as Shopsmith for some things that are the same and will offer a 20-50% discount here.

A few items are new but that does not affect my pricing. It will be better than what you can find used on ebay or other sources.

All parts will have been dismantled and cleaned and inspected and will be shipped dismantled to reduce shipping charges to you. The bigger the box the more it costs.

The only part that will not be sold is the base (which holds the castors) because this was damaged when movers dropped the machine and bent the base. If anyone wants this I will send pictures and ship it at only the cost of shipping to you. Otherwise it goes to a local person who is collecting scrap metal to support his family.

I have done some research and have learned that a neighbor, who lives less than 5 miles from me rebuilds Shopsmith Motors for $69. His name is Simon Eng 714-757-0380 near Nohl Ranch Road and Serrano in Anaheim, CA 92807. If you want a rebuild contact him directly. Or you can go through eBay but I think the best contact would be directly because you may be able to save a few dollars. Call him if you have questions.

I plan on having the GE motor rebuilt by him and then selling it separately. I have learned that selling parts on the headstock is probably the best way to go especially if they are in very good condition; e.g., the speed control mechanism is very good and the quill and drive shaft have just been overhauled with new bearings. That alone is worth about $150 when sold separately.

Therefore, I'm going to part out the headstock and I'll list pictures and prices here before posting on eBay. Prices here will be less.

I will respond some time next week to those of you who sent me emails earlier regarding what I have for sale.

For those of you over 40, or who promise something to your wives, you know that everything takes more time than anticipated.

I have accumulated some data on resale value of Mark VII parts and put them into an Excel Spreadsheet along with what similar parts have sold for on eBay. I'll be posting that here in the next two week in an Excel spreadsheet showing eBay selling price, shipping charges and total charges.. That will be followed with pictures and prices as well.

Some things I will be selling, while listed on eBay, have not sold so I suggest you look there for offers. You will be appalled at some of them.

Pricing will be about 15% less than eBay. If you want to use Pay pal then it will be an additional 7% because that is what going through eBay (who owns Pay Pal) charges for their services.

Shipment of whatever I offer will be calculated at the lowest rate available to you, USPS, UPS or LTL (less than truckload) carrier for heaver items. I will look for the best rate for you.

I haven't forgotten my commitment to post this. I'm just over forty and things take longer than I anticipated.

DB5, just so you know, Shopsmith, the folks who have provided this forum for our use, have a policy of no selling via the forum. I'd point you to a reference to that policy, but I didn't locate it with a quick search this morning. Perhaps someone else can do that.
