I noticed an interesting way a seller on Kijiji (like Craigs List) in nearby New Brunswick (3 hrs from me) added casters to his SS, using fitted boxes:

Presumably a way of avoiding drilling new holes in the legs.

Looks ungainly, I prefer the look of this way if you do not have the factory ones:

Both would raise the machine a little.

You could use this to add pneumatic wheels. There's a pic Bill Mayo posted of one on a trailer. You could use something like this is you needed big soft tires on it for a job site.

I guess my biggest concern with a setup like this is how do you keep the machine from rolling when pressure is applied when sawing etc., unless of course you are using locking casters (cannot tell in pic). Bigger casters would really be a better benefit if you had uneven floors in your shop. I had to place my new purchase in my father-in-laws garage and it has a few low spots in which you either have to navigate around our pick up the end slightly when moving it. I guess you could always put blocks around the wheels....

That first picture looks like a good way to add weight for lathe work. Just pour the boxes full of concrete...

I'd like to replace the casters on my as with a larger wheel and still have the ability to retract them...without of course, shelling out the $for the new as upgrade.
That will take some thinking...
