I was doing some serious power-washing of driveways yesterday, mine, and two neighbours (older folks, so I don't mind). Another neighbour's son walked by and said Hi and asked how am I doing. So I says 'Fine, just doing some power-washing. You know, this might look easy, but it takes some real skill to do it properly'. He looks at me and says 'And are you going to tell me it's just like white-washing a fence?', laughed, and waved goodbye as went on his way.

I'm not sure whether I admire him more for knowing about Tom Sawyer, or for waving at me as he left. Nice kid, he'll go far.

You should have bet him $5 that he could not do it right. Then when he was done say, "See I told you could not do it." And give him $10.

I once thought I'd get rich during a 24" snowstorm in Motown as a kid, shoveling driveways. First customer was a little lady (survivor of the Concentration Camps) and she kept me "verking" all day because the snow kept coming down, and I was not done. Never went to her house to shovel snow again after that. Hindsight - I should have done it for free every time.
