G3 Nova Chuck

I have a G3 Nova Chuck with the 5/8 Adapter that screws into the back of the Nova Chuck to attach to the Shopsmith with the Set Screw. When I'm hollowing a bowl and get some vibration the set screw tends to start coming lose. Any suggestions. I guess I could use loctite but then I would probably have to wait for it to dry before I could start turning.

By the way the setscrew that holds the adapter in is ok. It is the setscrew that clamps the G3 to SS Shaft.

The hardware stores carry steel set screws with a nylon strip down them.
that might work.
The G3 comes with a cup point set screw methinks.

Well I just looked for a link to these set screws and can't find any just nylon tipped ones. Maybe they ain't that common after all
I have seen then in those parts drawers in hardware stores before maybe the same store on different occasions.

I found some stuff called Vibratite VC-3 that sounds perfect for my problem. It dries fast and is reuseable.

This has been spoken of before. If the set screw does not interface with the tapered flat, it will tend to loosen.
I think the oval point is preferable.
Is the screw a 5/16-18?

I tighten it with my 3mm metric hex wrench. But I'm not sure what the spec of the threads are. It does have more of a scooped out point.

You could try putting some thin super glue/CA on the threads of the set screw, but keep it out of the hex socket. Let it dry before installing it into the adapter/insert. Maybe a couple of applications of the CA will be necessary to build the threads sufficiently for a tight fit. You can soak the set screw in acetone to remove the CA.

Put a little dab of RTV on a small section of the threads and let it cure. When the screw is reinserted the RTV will hold it in place. Not a permanent cure but will hold for a bowl or two.
