I already purchased a Nova chuck when Shopsmith offered it as an email special but I thought y'all might want to read this.

That's half the price of what Woodcraft wants for a new one.

Is this chuck to big for the Shopsmith. Would the G3 be a better size. If it would work well with the Shopsmith what are the advantages over the G3.

I have it and it worked great on my 520 and even better on my PowerPro. The only reason it is better is because of the confirm switch. Just before my upgrade I turned on my 520 at 3,450 with a bowl chucked in a SuperNova2 during a demonstration. Two people have permanent scars where the wood hit them when it finially let go. Completely my fault.

The chuck has a confirm switch? How does that work?

There is another thread related here on the forum this day.... the PowerPro headstock has the Confirm button (not the chuck). At speeds > 1500 rpm, the Confirm button is necessary to start the motor. So the operator is much less likely to over-speed a lathe piece (or a bandsaw, etc.) when starting up the machine.

Please explain, Paul. Tell me how the Confirm Switch function of the PowerPro makes the Super Nova 2 work better.

Dusty is there a reason to get the Super Nova 2 over the G3. I'm thinking about getting a second chuck if there is. I have the G3 now.

This Super Nova 2 is cheaper because it's reconditioned.

I am not the one to answer your question, Rich. I am not much of a turner. I just got the Super Nova a few months ago and have hardly used it. I got that particular chuck because of positive comments made here on the forum by some of the turners and because Shopsmith offered it. Getting it from Shopsmith was, I thought, a reliable indication that it was compatible to the Mark V.
