My Brother in law gave us a old Shop Smith of his dad's
Model ER 48389

My husband cleaned it up and built a table for it and asked me to see what information I could get about this model. He is thinking about selling it to get another one.

The serial number indicates a 1951 model.

When you say he built a table for it do you mean a stand for it? The table reference is normal reserved for the table of the machine, it is a major part of the system used for sawing and drilling etc.

I purchased my first one for I believe $88 and cleaned it up and added a few missing parts gave it to my brother. I think I about doubled my investment getting a manual and the missing parts.

After having experienced a 10ER I went looking for one a year or so later. That one was like $47 and the guy delivered it to my house! I've spent a good deal more redoing this one but then it has more features now like a speed changer which is a pricey add on off ebay. I'm in process of custom colors and hope to get it operation by fall.

If the one you have is close to complete and in working condition you might want to keep it and add a new shopsmith to the shop. The 10ER makes a good lathe and drill press along side a newer machine.

We like pictures here so if you can take some and post them we can better tell what you have and perhaps what would need to get it operational.

Enjoy your Shopsmith and stand back to be amazed with all it can do, even though it is over 60 years old (like me).
