510 Fence alignment problems

I have a ten year 510 with the original fence. I cannot get the fence to align parallel to the mitre slot. I have taken apart the pad that has the two screws at the rear of the fence and found both screws were loose and cannot be tightened. I installed two new screws, rethreaded the holes in the fence and still cannot get the fence to align regardless of where I set the pad, not to mention that the screws are already stripping out.

Any ideas?

ps - can't afford to upgrade to 520, so that's out.

The rear of the fence does not align the fence. The fence is aligned with the front lock. you loosen screws on the bottom side of the fence and adjust it. Get into the manual either hardcopy or online and follow the procedures.

There are two versions of the 510 fence. Both are adjusted as Ed described.

The rear stuff is adjusted so that it does NOT cause the fence to move when the rear clamp is secured and it is the last thing adjusted(after the front).

I understand about the screws stripping. My 500 upgrade fence uses an extrusion similar to the 510. I over tightened and stripped 3 of the 4. Used Helicoils to repair them IIRC the screws are 10-32. There isn't a lot of thickness there, but the Helicoils are holding after 2 years of use.
