For the first time, my bandsaw starting vibrating. What is anyone's diagnosis?

Could you describe the 'vibration'? i.e. What is vibrating?

The vibration occurs when cutting, or when under load. It feels as if there is something out of round. The entire unit shakes. When the cutting stops, the the shaking stops. The is a slight shaking when not cutting.

The question was 'what', not 'when'.

Is the blade tensioned properly?

Is the blade kinked?

Are the blade guides adjusted properly?

Are the bs and headstock shafts properly aligned?

What speed setting?

Are the tires secure on the wheels?

Is the bs clamped securely in the spt mount?

If something out of round was causing the vibration, would the vibration not be constant whenever the bandsaw was turned on???

Since the vibration start when you start cutting, I would begin by changing the blade.

A good cleaning and visual inspection of everything that moves is also in order. Keep in mind that the bandsaw is not the most solid piece of equipment running. It does shake and rattle a lot. Even when everything is normal.

Changing the blade is a good first choice. Also if the tire on the lower wheel is not secure it can cause the vibration. When cutting there is resistance against the blade from the stock and the lower wheel has to pull the blade through the cut. Friction between the wheel and the tire can cause the tire to ripple when placed under load if it (the tire) is not glued to the wheel completely.

Sorry. The blade unit, not just the blade, vibrates, working its way up into the housing. It just started all of a sudden. When under load, much more pronounced. Sort of feels like wheels out of round.

Check if the bottom tire is glued to the wheel. I have found 2 or more 90s and later bandsaws with black tires where the tires were not glued to the wheels. Also if the later orange tires were not glued, I believe the tire could somewhat slip and cause a vibration when under a cutting load.
