My wife and I just got back from where Kitchenaid mixers are made (Greenville, OH). That got me to thinking about the similarities between the two:
1. Both have "headstocks".
2. Variable speeds.
3. Changeovers for "SPTs".
4. Both are systems for creativity.
5. Portability.
6. Both considered "expensive"
7. Long lasting and durable (present mixer 31 years old and still going)
8. Design really hasn't changed too much over the years.
9. Variety of colors over time
and finally:
10. Both create happiness for their owners.

BTW, My wife purchased a new mixer today (50% off). We're getting the older one refurbished and will give to to our youngest daughter for when she moves out of the nest.

p.s. Just for grins, anyone else have 10 similarities?

Made in USA (for the most part)
High Quality
Very Durable (My wife's has seen 20 plus years of regular service without any issues)

Some of you may not know that this is also a wood working tool.

Yes it is used as a polisher, guitars and the like are finished with a buffing pad mounted on the mixer.

I have the professional 6, but I got mine in 2007 and had to replace the hall effect sensor ($18 on amazon at the time) just after the warranty expired. It's been working fine for the four years since through a lot of brownies and cakes and cookies and ice cream (though the ice cream maker attachment sprung a leak and had to be trashed -- after only 3 years' use).

I worry the same thing about shopsmith.. that maybe the new one I just got will not last as long as the old ones everyone else here has, so I guess this means I need to use it as much as possible while it is still under warranty.
