PP upgrade question

I think I'm just gonna get another headstock for the PP upgrade. I want to have one by the time I get the PPUG.
I need to know what parts of the old headstock will stay therefore must be in good shape.
What parts don't stay so they can be junk. I know the speed control and the motor get replaced not sure on the rest.

Everything gets replaced except the pinion shaft that controls the movement of the quill and the main casting. They (SS) will even send you a new power switch. If you do the upgrade they will ask what kind of a switch you require.

If I strip from the headstock of all those parts that are not used in an upgraded headstock, like the speed control, idler shaft assembly, motor, quill and sheaves - will Shopsmith accept that headstock for an upgrade?

I would say that would be a question for Shopsmith to answer. You need to call customer service.

I did call Shopsmith and was informed by Customer Service that the parts that are replaced by the PowerPro Upgrade NEED NOT be sent to them.
All they really need is the casting, the headstock lock assembly and the quill lock shaft assembly.
Everything else is apparently discarded when they do an upgrade.

I am pleasantly pleased with that answer.
That should significantly reduce shipping weight($$$).
And make that option more 'palatable'.
Reduces their labor also!
Win - Win(all but the USPS!):D
