I purchased a 510 used last week and was in the process of cleaning it up and doing head stock maintenance. The head stock powered up and I increased the speed. The GPI tripped on the curcuit and after reseting the GPI the head stock will not power on. I have tested the outlet and is connected okay. I spoke with the previous owner and he said that he replaced the switch about a year ago. What is the best way to determine the problem. Thanks

I would start by visually checking the wiring for interference with the speed control parts and faulty insulation. Unplugged of course.

If it has a GE motor look for this condition
[ATTACH]18149[/ATTACH]
This condition is only found on the GE motors and these wires go from the switch to the interior of the motor. This can be repaired by a person who can solder but the motor has to be opened in order to do it.
Easy repair for any competent electric motor shop.

This can be a very small nick in the wire, so look it over closely. I had this happen when I cleaned the head stock to roughly and pulled the wire out of the small clip. It had a tiny nick in the insulation and it stopped every time at the same speed. I was unintentionally wise in not turning it back on after the third in time, and the wire was still contact and I finally saw the spot. After i found it, I could feel it with out looking. you might try that.
