While this is in my general area I've already seen the demo and have no funds left this year for any more tool purchases so I'm going to pass on this one.

BTW I think part of Northbrook is in Cook County, they have a 9% sales tax in Cook County. I don't know how they work the sales tax at these demo's???

Anyway it is something to look into before hand if you are planning to buy.

IL general sales tax is 6.25% but counties can add to that. I live in DuPage county and it is 6.75%. Other counties other rates.

It gets even more confusing with gas prices. The local stations were at $4.19/$4.20 the other day and when we traveled about 20 miles west on a short adventure I was able to find it for "only" $3.98. Less taxes out there.

You mean Crook County, IL.
OK to just enjoy the demo but you'd be nutz to buy a high ticket item like a new Shopsmith plus tax in Chicago and its county. Next thing you know, they might start charging company's with a side show and pass the buck onto the audience.

Both Orland Park and Northbrook are in Cook county Illinois.
Those are the only SS Lowe's shows coming near hear.
The additional tax is cheaper than driving to Indianapolis.

Given that the items being purchased will be delivered via common carrier (not carried home from Lowes) is it possible the sales tax will be figured based upon local of delivery? We will live in an unincorporated area (not in the city) when purchasing major items I always have them delivered and save many dollars. I suggest calling Shopsmith to get an appropriate answer prior to traveling to the event. I just checked my invoice which came from shopsmith and both purchases from demo events were charged as I indicated above. Jim

I think the demo at Lowes in Kenosha, WI might have passed but sales tax was 5.5%. Significant less than the 9% for a not too far distance drive (just over the border). Regardless, why not just order at a Lowe's outside the state of IL and Cook county, have it shipped in to that store and pick it up?
