What are these mitre slot bolt holes for?

My 1960-ish Mark V Serial SS11976 has the two slots for blades. Both mitre slots have bolt holes at the outfeed end about 1/2" from the end; they are fully braced from below so it was made this way not redrilled by the previous owner. What were they for? Yes, I am a recent dreamer whose dream came true when an 81 year oldster sold/gave me his last 20 years for sure unused almost brand new Shopsmith Mark V 500. It was so cheap, I have to say he really gave it to me. I have done all the service stuff all the forum suggests but these holes are calling to me that something else should attach there. SO VERY GLAD TO BELONG TO THIS CULT! Thanks in advance, K

K,
Do a search on outfeed table advice and you will find one good use for the holes.

Thank you, I just did that and Idh posted some great work using these holes. I will make his brackets and improve mine. I was hoping that someone who had a manual from way back then really could tell us why Shopsmith put them there. Obviously Shopsmith put them there for a reason that they used to sell. Thanks again, now I'll make these 5/15 x 18 bolt brackets. K
