While watching Nick Engler on a Sawdust session(March 15, 2008 - Installing a lift assist), there is discussion about how to improve the movement of the motor and carriage along the way tubes. He refers to loosening set screws in the way tube tie bar and the base end. On my Mark 5 (1988 model), I cannot find any set screws on the base end which would allow me to loosen the way tube for rotating into new position to smooth sliding action of the motor assembly. Please advise me.

Raise to vertical. Look past the hinge pin from the 'inside'. There you will find a set screw for each tube.

Thank you for the prompt reply. In the video, Nick does not raise the way tubes to vertical when he refers to loosening the set screw on the base end. Secondly I have a cabinet attached from the bottom way tubes and missed seeing the set screw. This forum has never failed me yet in providing information in decision making regarding some aspect of the Shopsmith

Not sure when, but the screws were moved to the top(much easier access).
