What is amazing is how we've all seen this before. Based on the items and the version of the equipment, my guess is somewhere between 81-86, but I'm guessing others will have a more exact date.
I would guess Shopsmith with the demos probably attracted a few people who bought on a whim and then never got around to setting it up.

The saw table is the dual slot, I don't think they made it into the 1980's.
My 1976 has the dual slots but the used 1980 I have does not. If it is that early then the serial number table might not be of much use for 1973 to 1977 they have no clear information. These were out of the Vandalia location so maybe the box of records were lost in the move?

Great deal. I see that as about half price. Wish I was closer.

I've never seen the extra slot on the miter, but then again I don't know everything about SS either. I was guessing the date based on the Maxi-clamps. I had a catalog from 1982 ( I think) and I thought that was when they were introduced. Of course, the seller said they weren't included? Have they been around longer?

I bought my first Shopsmith from the factory in 1980 and it doesn't have the second slot in the table, so the one being sold came before 1980.

My guess would be it is an early SS Inc. vintage.
AIUI, Magna American ceased production about 1968 and SS Inc. started in 1972. Give or take a year!
If it has a crinkle finish, it probably was Early SS Inc. If smooth finish, it is probably a late Magna American.

It's one thing finding a machine of that age never used but finding one still in the wrapper...! Anyone have a 10er in a crate?

Bought m1ne from factory 12/82-1/83 has two slots - SORRY I WAS LOOKING AT MITER SLOTS NOT OTHER..DUH! MINE HAS ONLY ONE. MEA CULPA, MEA CULPA, MEA MAXIMA CULPA!

Good deal, closer but still not close enough. I have not seen the double slot. What was it used for?
