It looks to me like we have several newer members at the moment. I was wondering if they might like to introduce themselves here.

Let us know your experience, interests, and if you are a new SS owner.

Some of us are WW newbies and pretty much need to be spoon fed our information, like myself. Others are new to SS, but have many years of experience. Kind of nice to understand where someone is coming from.

BTW I am Sam and the wife and I moved into the Northfield MN community 4 years ago when I retired. Last year I started getting into WW, trying it out as a hobby. Earlier this year I jumped in all the way, buying a SS, DC, Band saw, Belt Sander, and Jointer - all used. I have to learn everything as HS shop class was 50+ years ago. I have read 15 WW books this past year, most were at the beginner level.

Looking forward to hearing from some of you.

Wouldn't it be neat if there was some sort of video forum that we could each join into on a scheduled basis.

Can a number of people join in on a single Skype connection???

I think not.. at least with the free version.

There is a program called Ventrilo for voice chat it requires a server though

I think it would be neat if a group of us could gather together on something like a Skype connection for a "Shopsmith Video Forum". I suppose there would be a cost associated with such a connection though. Nothing comes easy or free.

I did a google search on "web conferencing free" and there are some that claim to offer free conferencing service, but then again what they mean by free may be something else again. If there is someone on the forum who understands this sort of stuff, perhaps they could take a look and figure something out. I simply wouldn't know what to look for to determine if these offers are relevant or if free is really free.

Folks, I just have to say this. Sams idea for introductions was a good one but as usual, yet another thread has been hijacked and this time by the very next entry. Yes, I think Skype and or some other form of video get togethers would be intresting but it is an idea for a seperate thread. Please guys, we need to respect the threads and ideas of others and stay on subject and it's something that happens all over this forum far to frequently. SS does not impose any rules or regulations or dicipline like some forums do I'm sure of the fear of hurting business therefore I believe it should be self imposed. It's just a common courtesy. I've noticed that anytime anyone complains on here like I am now that the first thing that happens is that everyone is down on him. Sure it's free speech and you can say anything you want to anywhere and anytime you want to but as theoretical gentlemen, we need to act and talk with respect.

I guess I got lost some where. Sam was talking about introductions. Where did it get hijacked. Everyone was talking about ways of introduction.

Sorry Joe, perhaps I'm the one that can't read or perhaps I'm lost but Dusty immediately went off onto the possibility of a 'video forum' and that launched a discussion of the possibilities and technical aspects of doing that. No where else can I find a mention of 'introductions' or anyone even introducing themselves such as Sam did. You're welcome to your opinion however and none of this is worth an argument.

Hey, all I was doing was responding to the thought of self introductions. What better way to introduce yourself than to join in during a scheduled video forum. A chat room so to speak.

If someone wants to introduce themselves using what is already here, go to it. Others have done so on a regular basis.
