I have a 4" jointer for my VII but no mounting attachments. On the parts drawings they list Eccentric Mounting Tubes. Is this the only choice? The holes look like they would line up. Is it possible just to get some tubes and connect it that way? If so, where can I find some lengths of that 1.25" tubing?

If you mount the jointer with straight tubes you will probably want to get a couple of 1-1/4" stop collars. I am familiar with a source for the tubes and stop collars if you would like to contact me at the email below.

Well, I got the tubes and they fit fine but the horizontal alignment is way off. I guess that is why the eccentric tubes are necessary. I don't understand why they would make the jointer so it does not line up. Grumble Grumble

I don't know and I don't have a Mark VII but I believe the eccentrics are probably a solution to your alignment problem. Remember, these are multifunction machines.

One other trick that might help would be to remove the belt cover and look at the eccentric on the lower shaft. The eccentric is used to tension the poly v-belt. On the Mark V, they can be rotated clockwise or counter clockwise to tension the poly v-belt. When they are rotated they affect the front to rear position of the lower shaft (drives the jointer). On the Mark V is the general practice to rotate the eccentric clockwise to tension the poly v-belt. You might check yours to see if rotating your eccentric in the opposite direction from where it is will help your jointer alignment.

The original jointer tubes were straight.

Jointer manual of that vintage(Mark VII) states "If jointer shaft requires any horizontal adjustment, it is permissible to loosen the two hex-head cap screws which lock the cutter head to the jointer casting. These holes are deliberately oversize to permit slight lateral movement. Rotate cutter head just enough to achieve shaft alignment - then securely tighten cap screws."

That was from my Mark 5 manual in 1963. I have observed that the Mark VII eccentric appears to have a greater range which could aggravate yer 'situation'.

I checked out the adjustment possibility on the jointer and it is pretty minimal. Nowhere near enough to make up that amount of mis-alignment.
