Today in my shop (mounting a kreg bench klamp)

Hi,

I have had one of these bench klamps sitting around for a while now. Better if I get it mounted and get some use out of it right? So that was one of many projects of the day.

I didn't buy it here but this will get you orientated of which I speak.

A little background before we get to this project. I'm in the process of setting up a "kreg" table top. Nothing fancy, far from it. I have the K4 jig and several of the older jigs and a selections of clamps. Now I want a surface that I can work on with a few features. One such feature is having the clamp to use. I also want to have a place for the K4, I will not be keeping it there but just for when I set up to do some pocket holes. I also wanted a 90 degree corner to make it easy to square projects. I also want some free areas to work at/on. I plan to add some kreg bench dogs and a series of 3/4" holes for them.

For today's project I need to mount this plate flush with the surface of this piece of plywood.

To do this I'm using a jig that I built and shared here some years back. Here is on overview of it attached to the plywood after it was sized plate.

I used this router with a top bearing to do the pocket.

After routing out the wood you are left with rounded corners to chisel out, followed by a test fit. The fit was fine. Now you need to route a relief as sketched in this photo.

The relief is for this screw, that is what attaches the clamp to the plate.

I just free handed (routed) it out as it is not critical.

The plate is now ready to be attached. That will happen another day.

I did check the relief and everything is fine.

Still not sure if that is the best place for the clamp?? Kreg sells the plates for about $12 so I can always move or simple add a second plate if need be.
