The proud owner of a Shopsmith 10er.
It hasnt been used in a long time, motor sounds good when turned on.

Im wanting to mainly use the Lathe for smaller projects but its missing the chuck? and whatever holds material on right side.
If anyone could advise me what it is i might need? and places to purchase?

Tailstock: There be 'dead' centers and 'live' centers. The live ones spin, the dead ones do not.

On a 10, the center mounts into a #2 morse tapered hole in the tailstock. The 10ER is adjustable, the 10E is not. The 10E/ER tailstock mounts to the right end of the way tubes.

Welcome to the 10ER club! It's a fantastic machine. I've got 3 of them myself.

For lathe operations, you need a drive center or faceplate that you attach to the headstock. For spindle turning, this is typically a spur drive and looks like this:



On the other end of the machine, you'll need the tail stock which looks like this:



This mounts on the way tubes. See that hole at the top? That is where you'd put a "#2 Morse Taper" dead or live center. (Actually, the tailstock in that picture is missing the "floating center" which accepts the #2 Morse Taper center and allows you to fine tune the positioning of it to align with the drive center.) Pictured below is a "Live Cup Center."

Welcome to the forum. I just acquired my second 10 ER, in the process of removing a little rust.

Thanks for the help. I have a tailstock and the dead center. Going to buy and adaptor i seen somewhere and a chuck. Then some hand tools.
