Hi folks,

I was talking with my brother-in-law who runs a cabinet shop training center for the local state prison. He also has a large shop in his outbuilding with pretty much all the bells and whistles. I ask him if he had seen my Shopsmith. We went to the basement and he was fastenated. Come to find out many years ago he and my father-in-law had driven about an hour to see a demo.

Point is even folks that are experience woodworkers have an interest. We are going to see the demo in Shawnee Kansas in a couple of weeks. I went last year and can't afford the upgrade but it never hurts to look.

I understand the fascination for ShopSmith products. Many people like gadgets, and I am one of them. This is not a knock on ShopSmith or gadgets.

The Leatherman tool is another good example of a gadget tool. I have 4 of them and two similar Gerber tools. They work for the intended purpose very well, as does ShopSmith tools do.

Can single purpose tools do the job better? Sure, but do they do it better with as much style? Not in my opinion. :)
