I got a email from Rockler, and it seems to be a little misleading to me. It says buy one get one free. Then it says buy one and get a free gift. Check it out and let me know what you think.

It's an "accurate" ad and makes sense when you understand how they mean it. But "buy one, get one free" is a common marketing gimmick and almost always means buy one thing, get another of that same thing free. In this case, you're right in its meaning.

It probably is a misleading ADD because things don't add up if you are expecting something of equal value. As a misleading AD it think it speaks for itself. Trick or treat. You pick the treat you want and they pick the trick you will get with it. Spooky, huh? Just don't open the door.

Most big box and woodworker specialty stores and catalogs are using this means of marketing recently. Once in a great while it is a decent offering. Most of time it helps me make a wise, NO BUY decision. Not bad actually saves me money. Jim

They had an ad about 6 months ago where they had a free item when you bought another. The problem was that it wasn't clear which free item went with which full price item. Did you read left to right or up and down?

I went up to the counter with my free box cauls that came with the purchase of a ratchet clamp, or so I thought. Both were on an end cap together. Turns out that the free cauls were with the $65 router box jig.

I got that email and thought it was a confusing offer. Oh well, I got in on their living social deal before they limited it to just one per person. Looks like I'll be buying some heavily discounted Rockler items for a little while.

Here is a email that I sent Rockler, and their reply:

From: Joe [jweeks11@att.net]

To: Rockler Technical Support
Subject: E Mail special

On your email this morning it said. BOO-GOs BUY ON LINE GET ONE FREE but after you read a little more it says
Get in the Halloween spirit with Boo-Go Deals – that's Buy One Online, Get One FREE. Trick or treat? How about all treats and no tricks! Choose from several options listed below, like our 16-Pc. Forstner Bit Set with FREE Power Bore Bit Set or Porter Cable Speedmatic 3-1/4 HP Five-Speed Router with FREE Freud Bit Set. Get these treats while you can, they won't last long!
I feel this is a little misleading because you do not buy one and get the same product free, that is buy one and get one free has always meant. It should read buy one and get something else for free.
Thank You
Joe Weeks
