Oh, anyone in the Phoenix area, the store I work at is having it's Veterans Day sale tomorrow. 50% off the first $50 spent, 10% after that. Only for us Veterans. (Bring some kind of ID. My VA card works. DD214 works, too.)

No, The timing was off. I was a kid during Korea and by the time Vietnam got really hot I was married with 3 kids and considered a critical executive in a data processing center. My draft number just never came up...
My father was never in the service either. He was too young for WWI but he tried to enlist for WWII but they wouldn't take him. He spent WWII testing aircraft engines 12-7 and farming.
My paternal grandfather was never in. He was well into his 40's during WWI but my maternal grandfather who was about 20 years younger was in WWI (France, I believe) He didn't talk about it much...
I had a lot of ancestors that fought on both sides of both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. A sad state of brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor and in some cases father against sons... "Local" wars rip families and communities apart.
