This just appeared for sale locally for $100; interesting adaptation from a time before Ebay and parts availability (1/3hp motor hung under):

I like the light switch, complete with switch plate where the emblem supposed to go. Given the plethora of dirt-cheap MV500's I see on Craig's List, at least out west, I'd say that thing needs more clean-up and restoration than is worth $100.

That IS a piece of work right there.

That picture frightens me to look at. I wouldn't even consider buying that piece of work. In fact they would have to pay me to haul it off.

Now Y'all are looking at the funky stuff and overlooking the obvious good attributes. That link belt is worth $15, the cone pulleys are not cheap, It does have a motor, It does have a "B" headstock casting(yes with a few extra holes), bench and way tubes, end castings, carriage, legs, spur drive center, live tailstock center, a relatively new quill.

I agree, it looks pretty crude. Besides what JPG40504 noted, the advert also had a photo of the 500 table with fence that went with it. I thought about it for maybe 3 minutes before deciding to give it a pass.

I see nothing but potential in it. Not in it's current config but as a drill press mounted to the wall. You can't beat it for $100 and I'm sure you could argue them down even further. Like JPG said, the motor itself is worth that.

Hey everyone, could it be we're getting a glimpse into the next model/generation Shopsmith.... slap on a beer can holder and I think it's ready to go to marketing.

Nah!
The other direction! Looks a lot like a "10".
However the belt tension hinge is an 'upgrade'
