All along I just said to myself that I was just going to clean the dirt off the Shopsmith and just get it running. No fancy new paint job or anything like that. Well the other day I took the legs and base apart, including taking off the casters, to give a really good cleaning. Afterwards I then made the decision to strip the paint off, polish out the rust spots, and give her a new coat of paint. Today I started stripping the paint off. Also picked up some Rustoleum paint. Of course not an exact match, but still a shade of gray as her name is now Old Gray Mare. Once I am done, she ain't going to be what she used to be. Since she was neglected in the past, I thought she at least deserved a new coat of paint.

I have either gone off the deep end or the solvent fumes are getting to me. (Not really on the fumes as I am using the orange citrus paint stripper, so no worries.)

All I can say that might help you at this point is "Start a Piggy Bank for the Mark V". Remember how the household used to have a jar for pennies. Well this is the same thing except that it will have to be for nickles, dimes and quarters. Pennies don't add up fast enough.

Sounds like my wife. "Just need to freshen up and we can get going. No fancy paint job or anything like that. . ." Not in my wildest dreams. But it is worth the wait because there is nothing so beautiful as a completely freshened and restored. . .?

You'll be glad you did no matter how much time and effort it took.
