We left Monday morning at 7 am for Florida. Come 7 am tomorrow I'll be back on a plane flying home. We are doing thanksgiving today. I simply refuse to spend my time off being stuck in traffic and delays when we can simply adjust the schedule and make things easy. Good luck to those traveling today or Sunday, hope you get here OK.

Be safe...
As in several past years Diana and I will try to avoid becoming involved in any accidents as we travel the almost 2 miles from the farm to the big Chinese buffet in town.
Our 4 grown kids and their kids and grand-kids all have scattered other family gatherings for TG dinner (lunch). By the Chinese buffet folks having all foreign staff we don't feel like we are taking anyone away from their family traditions. On Thanksgiving they have been adding stuff like turkey, mashed taters & gravy etc. to the choices.
We usually eat there about 4 or 5 times a week so the folks there are more like friends than just workers.
One of our daughters lives 1500 miles away (west side of Montana) and will not be making the trip this year.
Another lives 3 miles away in town.
One daughter and our son both now live in their own houses here on (carved out of) the farm.
Most of the local family will gather at our house TG evening for a relaxed session of visiting, dozing off and a sort of meal consisting mostly of deserts, snack & munchie stuff etc. It works for us.

I am amazed at the quality and diversity (not to mention quantity!) of food available at some of the Asian buffets near me...for not a whole lot of money. My new favorite, worth a trip if you're ever nearby: http://www.allyoucaneat.asia/

I often say "chicken 27 different ways"... (at least I hope it's chicken)...
The larger Chinese buffet here is the cheapest place to eat a full meal in town.
The staff all appear to get along well with each other and their level of personal service should embarrass most eating places in town. None of those gossip gatherings while someone waits for service, total attention to the customers. I once saw one of the girls chase after a customer outside and down the sidewalk just to return a pair of sunglasses that they left behind.

Decided to drive to N.O from Houston Wednesday afternoon rather than wait until early Thursday morning on I-10. Glad I did. They had a 150 vehicle accident 30 miles west of Beaumont on I-10 at 8:00 AM Thanksgiving morning which tied up all east bound traffic for 12 hours and west bound traffic for 6 hours. A heavy fog bank was the cause. Along with 75 mph speed limit. Only 2 were killed. What do you do if you have to use the restroom? Car full of kids and dogs and grandma
