I have never had a D C S and was never a big "collector" of shavings and such as I work. I would use a dust mask at time.s I know all about the hazards of inhaling dust, but never persure any D C S.
I brought a house with a shop that has a built in D C S. It use a 6 hp shop vac and pvc piping throught the shop. I was surprised how good this simple shop vac system works.
I now find myself ALWAYS openning a gate, hooking a hose up and thinking of ways to use it more (like with the lathe).
It's kinda funny how the mind works. Maybe moving to this house will extend my life (lungs).

Probably will if skin gremlins don't counteract it.

Looks similar to the hose I bought through another source. Nice stuff to work with and is very flexible. I even bought some dust hoses with the auto recoil. Got a 3 foot hose that expands to 21 feet (although not more than 15 feet easily) and it is a nice feature. The 4" is heavier and doesn't recoil as well, but the 2 1/2" does a good job.
