miter gauge with safety grip rebuild

Hi guys
I've noticed that my miter gauge safety clamp doesn't have the "squeeze power" that it used to. My miter gauge face also tends to "shift" during alignment and tightening of the silver knob.
I'm considering disassembling the entire miter gauge and replacing all of the hardware...I will replace any all screws, washers, and etc.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any helpful hints that I should consider before I begin? I would prefer to purchase the parts from shopsmith...I just need to research if there is a pre made kit available or if I will need to purchase each piece individually.
Thanks in advance for your help!
