Italics are my thoughts

SHE – I think we should drive to Dallas and go to Costco before Christmas. What do you think?

ME – What is this? I haven’t even thought about it? Well, I don’t know I need some time to think about it.

SHE – (5 minutes later) Well, what do you think?

ME – About what?

SHE – Going to Dallas before Christmas to Costco. That’s when they have all the “stuff” and. . .(I forgot the rest of what she said).

ME – I haven’t had time to think about it. Why don’t we talk about it tomorrow?

SHE – (how do you depict a scowl and SILENCE?)

SHE – Ten minutes later, well, what do you think?

ME – I haven’t had time to think about it but it seems that it would be better after Christmas when the stores have the sales.

SHE – After Christmas is when they only have left-overs and it is before New Years and all the hotels will be booked New Years Eve.

ME – I perceive she has a preference that I should agree with. I wasn’t thinking about going on New Years Eve but earlier.

SHE – The hotel will be filled the entire week before New Years Eve.

ME – No they won’t. Going during the week before a holiday is the best time for getting a hotel room. Business people aren’t traveling and you can get the best deals because they are looking for bookings.

SHE – Well, that may be true in downtown LA but not in Dallas. Everything will be filled the entire New Years Eve week.

ME – Don’t even counter this. It will lead to an argument. You know this isn’t true but she believes it is or is just using it as a way of getting what she wants. You know what the eventual outcome of this will be. You can make it really bad or you can just go when she wants to. Just remember, what people perceive trumps what the facts are. Obama won re-election based on perception not facts.

ME – Okay, we can go next week but I need to check with the hotel on the best date to be there. As if there will be any day we can’t get in the hotel we want at the best rate. At least I will have some control over this. OMG! That must be what John Boehner is thinking in dealing with Obama on the Fiscal Cliff issue. Give in and you can control something that is smaller than mice nuts! We are in for it if Boehner continues on this path.

Just think how much you will both enjoy Dallas. Hey perhaps even Costco.

I think we can all relate to that. That is the way my wife does when she wants to go to Branson, and that is a 51/2 hr drive. How far is Dallas from you?

I just wish when my wife nagged me for a shopping road trip or "vacation", alll she wanted to do was go to Costco...at least I might find some use for most of the stuff we'd lug home. Instead she'd much rather go on a clothing and/or housewares shopping spree...more crap to end up seeing in the donation pile 6-12 months later. Funny thing is how much she wants me to go on some trip like this, knowing I hate it and will just dampen whatever fun she has squandering $$...for some reason me doing all the driving and logistics increases her enjoyment. Meanwhile for guys, ideal road trips are solo or with a buddy. I can live with women wanting to go do their thing, it's the drag me a long part I'm not keen on.

Funny!!!!! In this house, she is always right. Just relax and enjoy your trip. Around holliday time, does it treally doesn't matter what you (I) think?

At this point there is nothing we can do about fiscal cliffs. Again - just relax and take what comes. - Kinda like home, but maybe hurts the pocketbook a little more.

right now got to go to the store an get more titebond and Varathane, then take her out to eat, then go to the store(s). Gotta remember - Just relax!

I worry way more these days about the fiscal cliff my family always wants to drive off...but as noted, my opinion is not requested nor warranted, so I'm best just bucking up and hoping for the best if/when we careen over the edge.

One can only imagine how different this conversation would have gone if Costco carried Shopsmiths.

Well do they do (at least seasonally) have at least a token tool section and of course the food samples, so it beats most of the places I could potentially get dragged
