Beautiful Bowls...

THIS IS NOT MY WORK... I just had to share some beautiful craftsmanship. A new member on the Sandcarving forum I administer posted this work. Alabaster stone bowls with segmented wood rims, turned on a lathe.

I did some checking, and Alabaster has a MOHS hardness rating of 1.5 - 3 depending upon which variety. The man on the forum said he used a standard wood lathe and used carbide tipped chisels. I found his source of Alabaster was New Mexico Stone Supply and they sell Alabaster Pen Blanks also. Bet those would be nice.

Great looking bowls, would be fun to make, as they are a little different.

Tom, those are very nice bowls. Perfectly shaped. Thanks for posting.

One question, what are the measurements?

I wonder what sort of glue they use to join the stone to wood?
