THIS IS NOT MY WORK... I just had to share some beautiful craftsmanship. A new member on the Sandcarving forum I administer posted this work. Alabaster stone bowls with segmented wood rims, turned on a lathe.
I did some checking, and Alabaster has a MOHS hardness rating of 1.5 - 3 depending upon which variety. The man on the forum said he used a standard wood lathe and used carbide tipped chisels. I found his source of Alabaster was New Mexico Stone Supply and they sell Alabaster Pen Blanks also. Bet those would be nice.

Aspiring Sandcarver: Breaking glass one grain at a time.
Black Powder Shooter (love the smell of burning sulfur).
Great looking bowls, would be fun to make, as they are a little different.
I keep finding little windows on this forum, that I don't really know what they do. So sometimes I experiment. Probably shouldn't do that, I know in my shop it can get me into trouble.
