Hey Folks, I have just acquired a shopsmith Mark 5 manufactured in 1986. I know nothing about this equipment and trying to decide if I should sell it or keep it. It's quite interesting in that it has NEVER been used. It is a basic model with no accessories. Can anyone give me advice as to it's value. Also, with it is a BRASS Belt Buckle which I can find no information about and am curious as to the value of the belt buckle. Thanks in advance for help.

Where you are located will have a lot to do with the value of your Mark V. The demand, in any given area, has significant impact on the value.

That said, it would be very helpful if you would answer a few of the questions in your personal profile. Especially your location.

If you are close to me, for example, I can help you shed that Mark V really quickly. I would even help you set it up so that you could keep it and use it.

You said it was never used. If it is in "like new" condition, the value will certainly be higher but the price won't be "like new" no matter what.

Congratulations on your acquisition. Please give it a lot of thought before you decide to get rid of it. They are fantastic tools and I am sure that you will find it worth keeping.

Another Factor in the pricing is the model.

500 Original model with smaller tables
505 Larger table, with improved fence and updated carriage.
510 same table as the 505 and adds additional tables and support
520 Upgraded large tables with improved rails and even better fence.

I'm not sure when the 500+ versions became available but that will make a difference in pricing as the 510s and 520s are more desirable and generally less available.

Dusty, Thanks for the reply. I have updated my profile. I would like to keep the Mark 5 if I can learn to use it. I need a Band Saw and a Drill Press and that's how I ran across the Mark V. It Doesn't have the Band Saw So I am looking at used ones on Ebay. Can't afford to buy new one.

Terry, Its a 500, Dual Bearing Quill but not any of the later updates as on the later models. And it is literally like new. Never been used, not even sure it was ever turned on until I turned it on to test it.

I've noticed where there has been a few machines out there lately for sale that are advertised as new or still in the box. Its crazy they've sat that long. Congradulations on your aquisition, KEEP it.
