Now that I have acquired a belt sander the next step is the belts. Any recommendations on the various belt types?

Bob, Aluminum Oxide work fine for most applications. X- or Y-weight resin bonded belts in 60,100,150 grits make a good assortment. The Asian-made belts don't seen to hold up very well, so I'd stick to U.S., Canadian, or European brands. The Shopsmith brand are decent quality, but a bit pricey.
Slight differences in length of the belts may require some adjustments to the belt sander so that the auto tensioning mechanism works properly. All that is explained in the owners manual.
