Sorry if there is a list of SS Clubs and their locations and I have just overlooked it, but I am curious if there is a Southern California Club for SS Owners?

I would be very excited to find that there is one in the high desert of LA County around Lancaster/Palmdale area. Heck I'd be excited to find out there were a couple guys up here that knew what they were doing that didn't mind me glancing over their shoulder now and then. I promise I will be very still and quiet, you would hardly know I was there.

There are some users in your area but I'm going to let them identify themselves. You can find some of them by reading their posts (upper right hand corner).

A wild vision....Local Shopsmith clubs working in association with a larger Shopsmith Association.

Once a month, folks get together regionally, and for a few hours, do their thing....some might be tagged to give a demo, or it might just be a day to come and work on their project around their like minded friends. Show off a skill, a new tool, a home made jig...whatever. Some would turn, others saw, drill, glue, or sharpen or sand or assemble/disassemble/overhaul a headstock.

The more organized local clubs might even have a meeting place where the old retired guys go to craft, talk, drink coffee and distrbute the extra zucchinis that are overtaking the garden.

I see a Shopsmith fair, or symposium. Numerous members here have their 520, their shorty, their 10e drill press. Well, these guys would add one more to their inventory....their Travel Shopsmith. I can see the highly crafted Shopsmith case...trunk. Way tubes used as a dolly that carries the trunk with the headstock, legs and table inside.

I also see a rep from Shopsmith who might show up on occasion and set up a booth, sell parts, and give technical adivce. Other related retailers would also come and display their goods and services.

Yes, the local Shopsmith clubs might meet once a month, but a couple regional, or statewide symposiums would meet once a quarter. However, every February when it is cold and windy when those of us in the north need a break, we would be looking forward to a trip to Dayton, Ohio for the big annual International Shopsmith Conference.

Maybe Bill Mayo will post a pic of his Shopsmith on a wheeled stand with a trailer hitch installed.

I hope he does. Now that would be a thing to see. Do you think if someone forms a Shopsmith club all the members would bring their Shopsmiths with them to the meetings?

I live over the hill in Newhall, my Mom lives in Lancaster and I go up there once in a while. I may be going up tomorrow. I know of no Shopsmith specific clubs in the region.

For other general wood working topics, here are some ideas to search. I currently don't have enough interest in joining a club to make the time to join a club right now.

I am a minister in Lancaster, soooo I have a place. Big room, big parking lot... Coffee Makers.

Of course being a minister I start thinking about community projects, so what if the SS guys were all working together to make something to donate to a person in need or something that we auctioned on this forum and used the money to support _______ fill in the blank.

I'm not sure if there really are Shopsmith specific clubs around but you might find a few woodworking clubs here and there. In my part of the world, there is a group called the Carroll Carvers. And, they meet from time to time to share different woodworking skills and ideas. However, I typically see them at a lot of the events around the area selling their wares and demonstrating their craft.

Only those who have a Concealed SS Carry Permit.
