My experience on doors has been that I can buy them much cheaper than I could buy the wood to make them myself.
In my climate, wood doors aren't the best idea. They are too energy efficient compared to a steel or fiberglass insulated door.
My local Menards has literally hundreds of door styles on hand so finding one I like is easier than making one.

1. Allow for expansion and contraction of wood. A friend build one 40 inches wide from red oak and within a few years it had serious cracks where the glue held and the wood didn't!
2. Maybe consider a steel door with veneer. Trim pieces (stiles and rails) made on the SS.
Good Luck with how ever you proceed.
