Kind of cool... This thing is functional, just click and drag the slide and the center section. Sadly this is one of a number of things I have forgotten how to use for anything to speak of. I have several here "someplace" and still have my father's circular one that he used at Allison Aircraft during WW-II.

The only slide rule I ever needed I learned at age 5: Once you have landed at the bottom of the slide move quickly so you don't get whacked by the next kid coming down. Many of you probably learned that rule the hard way, as I did.

I used to have one of those and it's still likely in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. I never did learn how to use it.

It's amazing how the slide rule produce aircraft like the SR-71. I used one during my basic electronics schools in the early 70's. Then around 1975, I got my first LED calculator that did the basics and also square roots! I forget who made it. Then around 1978, I bought a TI-58 that allowed me to program function keys and enter formulas. Then I bought a TI-85 which actually solved for unknowns in 1992.

I donated mine to the local high school chemistry class to display in their historic case. The teacher had heard of slide-rules but had never seen one. The teacher was the same age as my children.

Wow, don't I feel old…

I have one in a leather carrying case. I used it in school and taught classes on its use at Keesler AFB in the early sixties. It was once a required class in the 301x0 AFSC (Radio/Navaids Repair).

I looked to see if you were really old, backhertz. I couldn't tell. Are you keeping your personal profile personal.
