Hey guys, my grandfather had a woodshop when he was alive and I have inherited many tools/tables/ect from him. I was wondering if I would sell it because I would not make good use out of it and I think someone else would. I have all of the original receipts and the tools are in great condition. They have always been stored indoors in a cool environment, but I think it is time to put them up for sale. Any suggestions about pricing? Or where to sell them? The main thing is the 510, the DC3300 Dust Collector, and the Professional Planer. I have all of the original pricing and booklets, he spent $4,057 originally. Any help would be great. Thanks!!

Craigslist or EBay, but probably Craigslist due to the fact they are big and heavy and won't ship easily. It all depends and where you live, but you aren't likely to see more than 20-25 cents on the dollar. The lower the price, he quicker they'll sell. Basically, if it doesn't sell drop the price, if still doesn't sell drop the price more. Repeat until it sells and you'll find the right price.

Most folks here are probably looking for deal that are a half to a quarter that price.

Update: are should have been aren't

I am in the LA, CA area and out here there are a lot of Shopsmiths for sale, so you can get them pretty cheap.

The pro planer though goes for a pretty penny anywhere. Is yours on it's own powered stand or is it one that attaches to the Shopsmith machine. If it is on it's own stand they go for $500 easy and often they go for that price even if they don't have the stand.

Age and condition are always an issue of course, but that item doesn't come up much around here. It is because they are awesome. You can't, IMO, get a better "bench top" style planer. There are those that may argue that, but probably not on this forum.

The extras you have with the machine are what will sell it around here. I usually get the accessory I am looking for and get the machine kinda thrown in with the deal.

I bet if you add to your profile where you live you will find someone close here on the forum that will help you out with that market.

BTW I am a Shopsmith noob, but I love to shop :)

Usually the dollar is there as a placeholder. I'm guessing if you talk to them, they'll want more.

A dollar for every ShopSmith

I see Shop Smiths all the time offered for sale on Craigs list.

In essence people believe they are worth a fortune.
Some in are in such bad shape they are just worth scrap metal.

If grandpa paid 4k for the lot you will be lucky to get 1k

The planner however may sell for $400.00 if it's the stand alone one.

Craigslist is your best bet, Ebay is a long shot unless you have someone in your local area who wins the bid.

Shipping is expensive due to weight.

Good luck

The Planer is very difficult to ship without it being damaged in shipment. It is heavy and somewhat fragile (parts easily bent).

Good Luck. I hope you find a home.
