Time to replace

I hooked up my new belt sander tonight and I am getting a bit of a squeal from the headstock. I have had the machine about a year and when I purchased it I had to fix a stuck shieve. I didn't replace any belts because they looked good.
I remember leaving the adjustment on the loose side but now if I am having some slipage should I order new belts? I had not noticed the noise in the tablesaw or drill press mode.

You only need a new poly-v belt if it slips with the eccentric at max tension.
That said, it does not make sense that the belt sander would cause slipping when the saw doesn't.
It is possible that wear on the motor belt surface of the sheaves could cause slipping at speeds different from sawing.
Finally are the sheaves still moving freely(especially the motor pulley).

I will check the belt tension tonight. I am thinking I adjusted a bit on the loose side last time. I am sure the sheeves are working OK but it is probably a good time to service while I am in there. I might try a bit of belt dressing while I am at it.

I finally got around to checking the belt. It was very loose. I wonder if I didn't get the 1/4" allen tight enough. Didn't want to overtighten and break something

If you did not tighten the eccentric bolt enough the slot in the bushing would be at a different position. You may want to leave a mark at the slot on the headstock casting to check for eccentric bushing movement.

The slot was pretty close to vertical so I either never turned it up or it was loose. Seems to run fine now. I will double check after a bit of running. I think I will put a pair of new belts on my list for the next order. I didn't change the belt when I repaired the lower end. It looked good but it is probably pretty old.
