Ok so I got the full PSI sharpening system a while back. I have had great success usind everythign but the fingernail jig. I can't figure out the angle to set the jig to. I have watched Wolverine videos but still don't get it. Guess I'm not as smart as I thougt lol. The other jugs on the market seep to have stops on the at varying angles but not so in the PSI version. Any advice?

• This jig is effective when sharpening fingernail blade profiles, especially bowl gouges with long bevels.
• Insert the blade in the slot and lock into place.
• Rest the brace of the jig in the pocket of the pole. Move the pole in or out in the slot to engage the blade with
the wheel. Adjust the angle of the holder until the bevel of the blade matches with the grinding wheel. Lock
into place. Turn on the grinder.While grinding, maneuver the tool, controlling the long fingernail bevel while
rotating the blade from side to side.

Copy of their instructions. Where are you having a problem?

I followed those instructions when I bought it and it turned my spindle gouge into a roughing gouge. Meaning it just put a uniform grind across the end. I can't figure out how the set the angle of the actual jig to keep a tear drop shape that spindle and bowl gouges usually have. I now have to regind my spindle but it's a cheapie so thats ok, but I want to get it right.

What direction are you rotating chisel/post? I think around and down is the motion you need.

I do understand the motion but I think it's the angles to set the jig to and how to position the gouge in the jig.

Take a look at this video -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjxT26E7gGg . He has other sharpening videos as well. Perhaps it's what you need. If not, see his web site -- http://eddiecastelin.com/sharing_information -- where you can download some things that might be helpful.

for spindle gouges the leg should be up towards the tool, bor bowl gouges the leg should be down as far as it will go. that it a good starting point and works well but you can fine tune angles from there.
