This Forum Has Taken A Sad Turn For The Worse

Over the last few days, various members have felt it necessary to post to the effect that any one who would vote for or support a candidate or policy that they disagree with must be a moron, a couch potato, brainwashed, a communist, a socialist, a traitor, blind, stupid, ignorant and/or have a venereal disease. (Ok, I made up the one about a venereal disease).
Contrary to what these members may think, these posts aren't winning the debate, changing minds (much less policy), overturning elections, furthering your impeachment fantasies* or doing a single constructive thing.
You are, however, turning off and making members feel unwelcome (I can't be the only one).
Until now, this forum has been the most collegial and civil forum on the net. To maintain that identify, I implore all of you engaging in this type of posting to stop. Please go to one of the many political forums where people go so they can engage in political debates with people who want to engage in those debates, divide into opposing camps, and hurl insults at each other (for whatever good that will do). There's no shortage of such sites on the net.
I'm not suggesting people with strongly held political views shouldn't hold them. I am suggesting that it is not in the best interests of Shopsmith or of this forum to do anything that may drive off current or potential future members who may not share the same political views but who do share our one uniting trait: a mutual interest in Shopsmith. There are too few of us with that trait as it is and this is effectively the only site where we can go to get our Shopsmith fix.

* Regarding impeachment fantasies: it has nothing to do with the Department of Justice; only the House can vote to impeach. Once the House votes to impeach, only the Senate can vote to convict.
