Looking at Used SS - help with serial/date

Hi guys -
I'm in the market for a nice but used SS. I found one and owner sent a pic of the serial # but I can not find any info on this four-digit number: 8833. Most everything I see should 5-6 or more digits.
Please help!

It might help to see the whole vent plate. A guess is it may be a 510 from early 1987.

I'm not sure, but it could be from January, 1987. The chart says 008008. Maybe the leading zeros were omitted. Page down on this site. - -

Since it says "SS..." and Mark 5, I would guess early 70's.
In any event the actual date really does not matter. Intervening wear and maintenance are far more relevant.

So, does anyone know when SS Inc. changed from Mark '5' to Mark 'V'?

I purchased s/n 6555 new in 1974 if that helps. I'm curious to know whether it has wrinkle finish paint or the more common spatter finish?

As am I!;) I know Magna American used gray wrinkle paint.

It's odd that I can't find this serial number is any lists.

Does your machine's serial look just like that one I posted in terms of number of digits and position, etc?

Considering that the information for the 'list' was created by 4 different corporate entities with numerous relocations(before the days of digital computers[paper age!]) and a prolonged storage period(no manufacturing activity) I am surprised it is as complete as it is!
That and the less than total clarity(details) of the info provided by the 'compiler'.

But a four digit serial number is really unique; a good reason for suspicions.
