Belt solution found? The Ultimate Sawsmith Radial Arm Saw Thread

Post by sailseahawk »

Working Belt replacement found: Just installed a link belt (Size 5L) and that does work, change speeds, etc. The saw does now have a new noise at high speed, but that may be an adjustment issue, as I had to disassemble much of the speed change mechanism to size & install. I will continue to fiddle with it and post an update. Also found a 4L150, recommended elsewhere in this thread, does NOT work on my saw. It is simply too loose.

I plan to use use my new-to-me saw as a replacement for my craftsman, since the saw has one more inch of clearance for through-cuts, thanks to blade being mounted on a shaft parallel and below to the motor, and also to run some of my SPTs.

I'll post when I figure this thing out.

SawSmith blade

Post by delong94 »

I recently ordered and received the 8 inch Woodworker I (Mr Sawdust TCG) blade for my SawSmith radial arm saw from Slivers Mill. It’s on sale now too. It is a great blade. No tear out and cuts were smooth and you need minimal sanding.

Source for RAS shaft nut sought

Post by sailseahawk »

Still getting my "new" Sawsmith RAS set up (before I ditch my wonderful Craftsman RAS). Looking for a source for the arbor nut on the right side, ACME RH 5/8 -11. For those not aware, one of the unique features of the RAS is the ability to put the saw blade and guard on either side. This is a significant advantage for miter cuts, compared to other RAS set ups, which have the blade only on the left. I have the nut for the left, but not for the right side. The shaft is 5/8 with a tapered flat, just like a SS, so I could use a SS arbor, but I would like the ability to put my other blade that side. I spent about an hour google searching, but not luck. I'm sure someone makes one. Worst case, a tap is available for $28.

Great parts find. Where on earth do you dig up these things John? It's like you have a time machine or something.
