I've been accumulating Mark 5s with the idea of building a reasonable facimile of a 520.

The only stop for the Shopsmtih demonstration in Montana is in Billings this weekend so yesterday I hopped in the SUV and drove the 240 miles with the idea of putting a PowerPro and lift assist (thanks to all who helped with that decision) on my Lowe's card. I had thoughts of the table upgrade, but had talked myself out of it before I even left.

Got there to watch Bill demonstrating to only 2 people. Talked to him and before I knew it, I had said yes to wrapping up a new Mark 7. The GREAT thing is that Lowe's has a deal going right now any purchase over $3500 can be financed at 6% for 84 months. Other wise it's the 5% off or 6 months same as cash. The Mark 7 and lift assist will be about $68 a month. THAT I can afford.

I can't remember when I have been this excited!!!! It was a long day of driving but worth it, at least to my way of thinking

Now, my biggest worry is not how to turn e bunch of Mark 5s into a 520, but instead taking pretty pictures of them to put on CL!

You do realize $68 for 84 months is $5712.

Not knowing the show price of the Mark 7, I used the retail price of $3979.

That means you gave away $1733 to Lowes finance.

Not to be a party pooper either, but a little forewarning...

If you use your Lowes card for other purchases that $1,733 goes way up. Your payments aren't applied first in, first out they are averaged. Meaning every purchase you make at the normal interest rate will ratchet up what you are effectively paying on the Mark 7.

Yes, I do realize that I will give GE (the company providing the credit) something over $1200 for the privilege of using their money. The final cost was 4376 with freight and the lift assist.

However, given the constraints of my income / budget, buying the PowerPro head stock and lift would have forced me into payments of nearly $400 a month into January (something that I could not afford and still eat, pay the hospital, etc.)

And you are not being any kind of party pooper. I gave this due consideration and the benefits, at least for me, out weigh the extra money.

I guess I consider this my retirement present to myself. With the constraints of CIPN from chemo, I can only spend limited amounts of time standing and griping things, so golf has been virtually eliminated. Woodworking is one of those fun things that I can do for 15 minutes, take a break as i need and then go back to.

I generally don't buy anything anymore that I can't buy with cash, but this will be my splurge for ME! I find that I am quite willing to spend extra on friends and family (often who have a great deal more unincombered cash than me), but this time I said "Why not me?".

As a mediator, I saw a great deal of self justification by people who's actions were sometimes less than shall we say 'honorable', and maybe in my case with this new system that is also the case. But I am neither taking the food out of the mouth nor denying shelter to anyone , so I continue to feel good and anxiously await my 'retirement gift'

In the spirit of full disclosure I did send an email to a friend who is more addicted to woodworking than anyone else I know about whether I was making a wise decision or if it was 'folly' and his reply was that he laughed as he read about my justification and thinking about ALL the extra woodworking toys he has in is shop. So wise purchase or pure folly? Only time will tell.

Well! That explains why My 'Commercial Lowes Account' was closed with NO notice. No balance at the next closing period(ever) = no interest income for 'them'(ever). Good Riddance(of them).

Amex fees will just have to be paid by Lowes instead!:rolleyes:

Yeah that was a bit irritating when the credit card companies started doing things like that. I have one credit card that normally stays at zero, though I will break it out once in a blue moon for things like rental cars that penalize you using debit ($600 hold to rent a car!). Past few years I've had to make sure I leave an amount on there at least one month because they kept taking my credit limit down.

As I understand it, AmEx matches or at least extends the warranty of electronics you buy using their card. Is that correct? If so, how many years extra warranty would you get ?!!
